"I want a blaze of light to flame in me forever,
in a timeless, dear love of everything.
And why should I pretend to want anything else?"

"Breathe-in experience, breathe-out poetry."

~ Muriel Rukeyser

Welcome!

September 12-18, 2025 ~ in Lana, Italy

Meditation harmonizes body, mind, and breath, allowing deep letting go of unnecessary tension and revealing an ever-present Awareness. This deeper nature is our birthright to realize, is not separate from any moment or expression of life, and is refuge when old reference points fall away.

Writing ushers us into a realm of imagination, soul, and the liminal where we remember or sense things we didn’t know we knew. A realm where we can receive vision or whole-hearted wisdom (Prajna), not available through thinking or the conventional five senses alone. Where we may court and be courted by our muses, guides, or noble daemons. And where we can unfold bits of magic and insight simply by showing up to the page.

"May what I do flow from me like a river, no forcing and no holding back.”

~
Rilke

“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it!

Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”

~ Goethe

WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING:

By far the best poetry class I’ve ever done.”

~ Bridget Hanley

"The sessions with Brooke and the community she gathers are gently powerful and powerfully gentle. After every session you have a sense of having had close friends for a visit and you would like them to stay, almost like when you were a kid, playing outside and being called in for dinner — you just want to play a little more…”

~ Igno Van Niekerk

"Originally built in 1981, the hotel was modernized recently to function as a home to holistic well-being and first-class design, art, and slow-food cuisine.

Regional materials, such as larch and spruce, as well as marble from the Vinschgau Valley and porphyry tiles from the Sarntal Valley, were used to grand effect in modernizing the hotel. Large windows let the inside and outside blend into one, while the public areas, especially the entrance area with reception and Bistro Luce, serve as a large “living room” for guests.

A 29-meter heated  outdoor pool, a spa with signature treatments, and a Finnish outdoor sauna hold center stage."

"Massage and beauty treatments are done in complement with Susanne Kaufmann’s natural cosmetics at the hotel’s indulgent spa, while a steam bath, bio-sauna, and Finnish outdoor sauna activate bodily awareness, breathing, and flexibility. The outdoor pool includes a large sunbathing area with a pergola and a view of the vineyards. There is also a 10-meter indoor pool.

An historical village of churches and castles, Lana unfolds itself through architectural wonders and markets that celebrate the now."

Experience Fresh, Conscious, Slow Food

Onsite meals will be served at "La Fucina" restaurant at the Schwarzchmied Hotel.

From the hotel website:  "The Forge - la Fucina - is the restaurant where chef Andreas Pircher translates the philosophy of the Schwarzschmied into culinary delights. He uses the freshest products to cook excellent, culinary exciting, but also vegan, vegetarian, lactose- and gluten-free delicacies.

Bread from Nals and the Ulten Valley, organic eggs from the Vinschgau Valley, tea from Bolzano, coffee from Fiè, honey, cheese and yoghurt also from the Ulten Valley. The hotel knows all local farmers, producers and suppliers personally and they pay them regular visits. Juices, beers, wines and brandies are also sourced locally, with a wine list that features some of South Tyrol’s and Italy’s flagships."

Dietary restrictions and allergies can all be accommodated at onsite meals at La Fucina.

Local, regional, seasonal, phenomenal

"The hotel presses its own Gewürztraminer Südtirol Alto Adige Doc, Vernatsch and Lagrein. Depending on the season, chef pick fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit for their cuisine directly from the Schwarzbauergarten behind the hotel.

You can also check out local off-site dining options and cafes in Lana HERE."

Sometimes you hear a voice through the door

calling you, as fish out of water

hear the waves, or a hunting falcon

hears the drum's Come back. Come back.

This turning toward what you deeply love

saves you. Read the book of your life,

which has been given you.

A voice comes to your soul saying,

Lift your foot. Cross over.

Move into emptiness

of question and answer and question.
